Baaer Meinhof and Baby Killers...

I'm going to start this blog post by introducing you to the "Baaer Meinhof" phenomenon. This is essentially a named phenomenon that you will have almost definitely experienced without realising it was named. The Baaer Meinhof phenomenon is that temporarily bizarre stage in life where you learn, hear or see a new piece of information, commit it to memory and as a result begin seeing it everywhere. This is exactly what has inspired this blog post, and before I start I want to state that I realise this topic is controversial. 'Students' VS 'Residents' - Bath is full to the brim

In September 2014, I moved from my home near Reading and started life as an undergraduate Psychology student studying at the University of Bath. As of September 2014, my predominant postcode has been BA2. I have done my food shopping in Bath supermarkets. I have drunk coffee in Bath coffee shops. I have gone to church in a Bath based church. I have spent my nights out in Bath clubs and eaten Sunday roasts in Bath pubs. I have lived next to Bath-born neighbours. I have worked for Bath and North East Somerset Council. I have mentored young people who commit crime in Bath. I have organised events which have raised money for charities local to Bath. I have spent 2 out of the 3 summers since moving here, working and earning money in Bath. Yet, because of my age, my student status, and a heavy dose of prejudice from some who live in this city, I am not considered a resident. Evolutionary Explanations of Food Preference - Revision/Essay

Discuss 2 or more evolutionary explanations of food preference (8+16marks) Psychologists have carried out much research into the origins of modern day food preferences. The evolutionary explanation of food preferences argues that our likes and dislikes for particular foods have their origins in the way we have evolved. In order to study this, we have to understand the Environment of Evolutionary Adaptation (EEA). The EEA is the environment in which a species first evolved. For humans, it is thought to be in the African savannah 2 million years ago. Early diets would have consisted of foods high in fats and calories as they provided the most energy for humans to survive and find food for their next meal. Calories were not plentiful in the EEA and therefore were in high demand. This explains why even today, we have preference for fatty and calorific foods despite not needing the same amount of energy as we are no longer required to hunt for our food or burn as many calories.
